The window is the least fixed part of a room. It edits the wall every hour, brings weather close, and makes familiar objects look newly placed.

Instead of trying to control that change, leave a little space for it. A bare edge of wall can become the day’s slowest picture.

This is a practice of attention, not a decorating rule: return to the same corner and see what the light has revised.

Morning draws the edges clearly. Evening softens them. Between the two, the same bowl or chair can belong to several different rooms without moving at all.

Before adding something new, watch what the window already gives you. A home often contains more variation than its owner has had time to notice.
