A hallway is a place of movement, not of rest. It asks little and receives less attention than the rooms it connects.
A single candle held by a brass sconce can change that. The metal catches the flame and returns a soft, doubled glow. The scalloped arch above it gives the light a quiet frame.
The candle does not need to burn for long. A few minutes while coats are hung or a door is closed is enough to make the passage feel less like a gap and more like a room with a purpose.
Brass warms slowly beside a flame. Over time it will darken in the places the hand does not touch, and that uneven colour will belong to the house.
